Citat från Triumph of Maximilian 1 - utgiven av The Holbein Society:
”The Breastplate course,35 a rank of five men. The course in the Gaspar Wintzer style,36 a rank of five men, carrying targes and drayoires. The Vamplate course, a rank of five men with elmets.
35 The stroke was delivered on a breastplate, which the tilter wore attached to his chest. It consisted of a square piece of wood surrounded by a border and ornamented with embossed work. In place of this it was sometimes covered with open iron-work, which they called simply the Grit (Rost). As the champions fought with bare heads, and were only armed with a cuirass, this kind of course was extremely perilous. It was their custom to place a coffin in the tilting-ground before the champions undertook the course.
36 This Gaspar Wintzer is mentioned by Fugger amongst the combatants in a tourney given by Maximilian at Vienna in 1515, in the place called Am Hofe. —“Ehrenspiegel,” p. 1335.”
