Citat från Triumph of Maximilian 1 - utgiven av The Holbein Society:
”The course of the ingenious breastplate,29 a rank of five men with breastplates, of which the pieces leap into the air.
The Elmet (. Helmlet) course,30 a rank of five men.31
29 It appears that the targes which were used in this kind of course were arranged so that the springs, united in the centre, held the different pieces ingeniously together ; but when struck on the union of the springs, the pieces flew up.
30 The word elmet has the same origin as the German Helmlet, the Italian Elmetto, which signified formerly in Italy a kind of little helmet. —“Diction. deTrevoux,” article Armet ; and “Dizion. della Crusca,” article Elmetto.
31 We cannot avoid remarking that this kind of course, as well as the three others, of which there are no engravings, is neither found in the work of Schemel, nor in the MS. entitled “ Etliche Rennen,” &c. Is it not possible that one kind of course might have two different names, and that the names of the two latter courses, newly inserted, relate to two of the four without engravings. Is it not probable that the majority of these names were the creation of the Emperor. The jousts and courses, taken together, occupy twelve engravings. There is one more amongst the miniatures, but as it bears no inscription, we cannot determine to which of the four mentioned names it relates.”
