The Battle of Lützen - Theatri Europæi
The Battle of Lützen - Theatri Europæi
First edition of two). A pressure that takes its toll. An overview of the Battle of Lützen, perfect for those with a keen interest in military history.
The print is a reproduction of a copper engraving from 1637. The plate was part of the work Theatri Europæi and the author is Mattheus Merian. Originally a work that contained 21 parts and was published in the years 1633-1738 and was issued from the office of Mattheus Merian in Frankfurt. The work presented contemporary history. What is interesting about this print is that it was actually produced very close to the actual event. Quite unusual these days. And text and image therefore have more of a spirit of a war reportage rather than a made-up post-construction.
The reproduction is of very high quality. And the second edition was sold in 100 copies to the Stockholm Army Museum in 1982.
The poster includes a swedish translation of parts of the text as well as the legend that belongs to the illustrations. For example, which troops are lined up in which formations. But also kruiosa such as "The miller's little house".
The associated text is conveniently placed on the back of the board, or framed together with the poster.
The picture is sold without a frame
