History:
The planch work "Architectura Navalis Mercatoria" was compiled by the shipbuilder Frederick Henry of Chapman and published in 1768. The work contained 62 copper engravings with drawings of various types of ships and boats, including warships, schooners and small fishing boats. Some of these drawings are Chapman's own designs, while many are of ships and boats he encountered during his travels or in his vicinity and found interesting. In 1775, the "Tractat om Skeppsbyggeriet" was published, which contains comments on ship and boat constructions.
