Folder with maps of Scandinavia and Denmark

Folder with two of the maps from Sebastian Münster's Cosmographia with associated Swedish translation from the original.

ATTENTION! These are the same maps, of Scandinavia and Denmark, which can be purchased separately. Then without the associated folder and texts.

The maps are carefully reproduced and enlarged from the woodcuts of the original work and are highly decorative. Both maps can be hand-colored and an example image from a historical publisher can be seen above for examples.

The folder's texts add another level to the work. Münster's imaginative descriptions and pure guesswork about why places and landscapes got their names are very entertaining. Despite the work's free interpretations of how the world looked, the work Cosmographia was highly appreciated during the 15th and 17th centuries and was published in 24 editions between 1544 and 1644.

Only a few copies of the folders remain.
