Theasaurus philopoliticus - Landskrona – Daniel Meisner (1623-1631)
Theasaurus philopoliticus - Landskrona – Daniel Meisner (1623-1631)
Reproduction of copper engraving showing a view of Landscron in dennm., or Landskrona. The engravings originally come from the work Theasaurus Philopoliticus which was published in 1623-1631 in Frankfurt - a work that collected over 800 views. The pictures were largely copied from the famous works of Braun and Hogenberg, but with moralizing thought language and foreground scenes. It is speculated that these foreground scenes and thought languages were mostly placed there by chance and really had no direct connection to the city itself.
The languages of thought were printed in Latin and German.
A translation follows:
Every bird sings according to its beak.
A goose will never try to sing like a swan, but certainly shouts out its old song.
A white swan sings so sweetly that it rings in the air, a goose, on the other hand, can only cackle until its head is chopped off.
The picture is sold without a frame.
